The Bloody Long Walk Sydney (2024)

The Bloody Long Walk Sydney combines the spirit of camaraderie with a shared commitment to a noble cause, beckoning participants to embark on a journey of resilience and determination.

More than just a physical feat, The Bloody Long Walk is an example and spirit of the collective strength of individuals united by a common purpose: raising funds to support vital research for mitochondrial disease. Step by step, participants stride forward, creating stories, endurance, and hope. This is not merely a walk; it’s a powerful stride towards a future free from the impact of mitochondrial disease.

Engaging in the Bloody Long Walk became a meaningful choice for my friend and me, constituting a distinctive segment of her birthday celebrations. Our decision to embark on this walk wasn’t just a physical endeavour; it symbolised a shared commitment to a cause larger than ourselves.

As part of her birthday gift to herself, we stepped onto the path of resilience and determination, joining the ranks of individuals devoted to raising funds for mitochondrial disease research. This unique way of commemorating her birthday became a journey of purpose, weaving together personal milestones with the collective pursuit of making a positive impact.

About the Bloody Long Walk Sydney

The Bloody Long Walk Sydney spans an impressive 35 kilometres in a continuous journey orchestrated by the Mito Foundation. Usually happening in November, this charitable initiative is dedicated to raising funds crucial for advancing research and discovering cures for mitochondrial disease (mito).

Mito, a debilitating genetic disorder, poses a potential threat to life by hindering the body’s capacity to efficiently convert food into the energy required to sustain muscles and vital organs. Personally driven by the cause, I actively participated in fundraising to contribute to the mission of the Mito Foundation, aligning my steps with the collective effort to combat this challenging disease.

Preparation of Bloody Long Walk

In preparation for this significant endeavour, I adopted a gradual approach, commencing with shorter 7 to 8-kilometre walks alongside a dedicated group. Progressing steadily, I advanced to longer 20-kilometer walks, acclimating my body to the demands of an extended journey.

As a crucial part of readiness, a dress rehearsal was conducted two weeks before the scheduled walk. This involved traversing the exact route and covering the same distance as a comprehensive test of endurance and familiarity with the path. This systematic preparation aimed to fortify physical stamina and enhance overall preparedness for the Bloody Long Walk.

List of walks we did in preparation for the walk:

Rehearsal for Bloody Long Walk Sydney

In the lead-up to the Bloody Long Walk, my friends and I organised a dedicated rehearsal walk precisely two weeks before the main event. This rehearsal served as a practical test, assessing our ability to complete the challenging 35-kilometre journey successfully within a single day.

Undertaking this rehearsal walk allowed us to gauge our endurance, identify potential challenges, and refine our strategies for the actual event. It was a valuable opportunity to fine-tune our preparations and ensure we were physically and mentally equipped for the demanding feat.
